EVNSPC applies digital technology to modernize the power grid.

EVNSPC has fully digitized its records and processes, providing 100% online services, applying AI and drones to monitor the power grid, and enhancing customer experience.

During the 2021–2025 period, Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) strongly promoted digital transformation and the application of science and technology in its production and business operations. With the orientation of “Digital enterprise – Digital power grid – Digital customers,” the unit has both modernized its management infrastructure and improved the digital experience for millions of customers.

EVNSPC is one of the three leading units of Vietnam Electricity Group in terms of completion of the Digital Transformation Project, achieving around 95–96% of targets. In the governance field, shared software systems have been deployed down to the power company level, supporting effective management and operation. The management and operation system has been synchronously upgraded with ERP, CMIS, HRMS, PMIS, D-Office platforms and a centralized BI–Tableau data warehouse, enabling real-time decision-making.

According to EVNSPC statistics, to date all internal records, documents, and business processes have been digitized. More than 19,500 employees use digital platforms in their daily work, forming a flexible, transparent, and efficient working environment. 100% of staff in designated positions are equipped with digital signatures; 14 business processes have been digitized (safety, technical, legal, planning, investment, etc.). The financial management system has been comprehensively digitized with e-invoices, e-payments, cash flow planning, and 150 Tableau-BI dashboards, supporting real-time management and operation.

In the technical and safety field, the equipment database (PMIS) has been standardized with more than 20 million data records. The unit has deployed condition-based maintenance (CBM), field monitoring through Digital Workforce, and combined AI and drones in power grid inspection. These applications help improve power supply reliability, minimize incidents, and reduce power losses.

At the same time, customer services have been comprehensively digitized. Currently, 100% of electricity services are provided online at level 4; 71% of customers use digital platforms such as the website, mobile app, and Zalo. About 60% of requests are automatically processed via CMIS 4.0 and EVNHES 2.0. EVNSPC has also upgraded its customer service app and website to serve more than 8 million customers, while integrating EVNID electronic identification, payment connectivity, and e-invoices, thereby enhancing convenience, speed, and transparency.

The Corporation has also implemented eight scientific research projects, including three applying AI to monitor, analyze signals, and forecast equipment failures. As a result, the SAIDI index has decreased by 84.4% compared to 2016, labor productivity has increased, and power losses have been significantly reduced. The unit applies many advanced technologies in the field such as live-line construction; drone (unmanned aerial vehicle) applications in inspecting 110kV power grids; AI and sensor technologies in partial discharge monitoring, dissolved gas analysis, and diagnosing potential transformer failures.

According to an EVNSPC representative, these solutions have contributed to improving system stability, reducing incidents, and modernizing the southern power grid toward “smart, safe, and efficient operation.”

Entering the 2026–2030 period, the unit aims to continue comprehensive digital transformation and develop modern infrastructure under the model of “One infrastructure – one data repository – one smart operation platform.” The focus includes three pillars: modernizing digital infrastructure, leveraging data and AI, and ensuring information security with a “Zero Trust” model and an AI-integrated SOC cybersecurity center.

For infrastructure, the Corporation targets deploying software-defined networking (SDN), building Tier III-standard data centers, and applying hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) and cloud computing across the entire system. For data and AI, the orientation is to form a unified data warehouse (Data Lakehouse), applying big data analytics in load forecasting, predictive maintenance, operation optimization, and customer satisfaction assessment. Meanwhile, information security is considered a foundation, with the application of advanced security mechanisms and AI-integrated SOC systems to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Alongside these three pillars, EVNSPC will continue expanding the application of drones, BIM, UAVs, and AI in construction monitoring, accelerating the digitization of 110kV substations, and developing smart grids associated with renewable energy. These solutions aim at modern and efficient governance, promoting the “greening” of the power system in the southern region.

In the new context, requirements for infrastructure, data, and customer experience are increasingly high. The Corporation affirms that digital transformation is not only a technical task but also a driver of sustainable development, creating a foundation for more transparent, innovative, and efficient operations.
